Mobile Workshops will take place after the
congress, on 24 and 25
September for Congress Delegates and Companions. They are offered by the Local
Organising Committee, the Antwerp Port Authority and the Cities of Ghent and
Liège.
On Monday, 24 September, participants have the choice between the Port of Antwerp and the City of Ghent. On Tuesday, 25 September, the Mobile Workshop will take participants to the city of Liège.
Strategic Plan for the Port of Antwerp
In Flanders each port has to develop a strategic plan defining the spatial future of the port based upon the economic
perspectives and the ecological and social conditions and constraints. During this workshop the port planners will
explain the approach and the results of this complex process. A tour through the port will illustrate the ambitions
of the port authorities as well as the relation between the port and other functions (villages, agriculture, nature).
Part of the tour will be by boat, during which lunch will be provided.
Urban projects in the cities of Ghent and Liège
During these workshops city politicians and planners will explain the spatial urban policy of the city, focusing on following urban projects:
Ghent:
- the Old Docks: development of a new urban quarter in the old port
- the Loop: development of a large-scale quarter with mainly economical functions around the Flanders
Expo Halls
- Gent-St.-Pieters: expansion of a railway station area and development of a new urban quarter with mainly
habitation projects on former railway grounds
- city renewal projects: bridges to Rabot and Ledeberg
Liège:
The target of this workshop will be possible solutions to Liège’s urban problems and challenges, e.g.
the river port, the High Velocity Train station, St.-Lambert square, Media Cité, the historic city center,
residential development, economic development and sprawl, …
A reception at city hall is included (to be confirmed).
