Urban Planning Advisory Teams (UPATs)

 

The objective of an ISOCARP Urban Planning Advisory Team (UPAT) - formally called Urban Task Forces (UTF) - is to offer the extensive planning experience and expertise of ISOCARP members for international planning projects, programmes and policies. The UPAT is a ‘bottom-up‘ initative that activates the members of ISOCARP who highlight UPAT opportunities, and find sponsorship.

Urban Planning Advisory Teams until now:

2009 Szczecin, Poland

The capital of the West Pomerania region, the city of Szczecin, holds the 7th place in Poland with respect to population (414 000 inhabitants). It is also the most important city of “Pomerania” Euroregion, which includes Polish, Swedish and German communities. Szczecin is located in the north-western corner of Poland at the banks of Odra river, at a distance of about 65 km from the Baltic Sea. It only takes 12 km from the city to the border with Germany and 120 km to its capital, Berlin.

2009 UPAT Sitges IV, Spain

This was the fourth UPAT of an agreement of six that was signed by ISOCARP and the Sitges Municipality. The initial commitment of ISOCARP was to help Sitges into the long term urban and regional planning organization and to develop  several ideas that were on the mind of the Sitges society and administration.

2008 Zurich Limmat Valley, Switzerland

The objective of the UPAT is to come up with an integrated vision for the Limmat valley within the Zurich Metropolitan Region. The vision is to identify and highlight ways for the Limmat valley from an area of externally networked fragments to an integrated regional core area with high quality of life and competitiveness and from a ground for externally determined developments to an active subject in regional development.  Read more>

2008 Guadalajara, México

Guadalajara will be hosting the Panamerican Games in 2011. In order to take advantage of the event in favor of the city, the Government of the State of Jalisco and the local Municipality are promoting a set of projects and actions of major urban renewal to revitalize the city and to draw a strong impulse towards its future development. They want “Games for the City and not a City for the Games”.  Read more>

2008 Lincoln City, USA

This Urban Planning Advisory Team will be held AT THE BEACH in Lincoln City, Oregon, USA (Pacific Coast). The subject of the UPAT will be to help create a Community Vision Plan for the Cutler District, a small residential & commercial district and the gateway into Lincoln City.  Read more>

2008 Cuenca, Spain

This UPAT is sponsored by the Municipal Government of Cuenca. Cuenca is a UNESCO-listed historic city in central Spain, within the region of Castilla-La Mancha. Its location is almost equally distant to Madrid and Valencia, two metropolitan areas of significant and sustained growth forming the emerging axis Lisbon-Madrid-Valencia. Cuenca is currently exploring strategic growth options that would take advantage of the opportunities brought about the new rail infrastructure whilst maintain its current quality of life.

2007 Sitges III, Spain

2007 Schwechat, Austria

Manfred Schrenk, ISOCARP member and director of CEIT ALANOVA initiated the ISOCARP UPAT with the municipality of Schwechat and Vienna International Airport located in it.
