Khalid Zakaria El Adli Imam, Egypt
Educated at Cairo University; University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign; University of California, Berkeley; and Texas A&M University, Dr. Khalid El Adli holds a formidable package of credentials including a Ph.D. degree in Urban and Regional Science, an M. Arch. as well as a B. Arch. degree with Highest Honors. He is currently Associate Dean and Professor of Urban Design and Landscape Architecture at the Faculty of Urban and Regional Planning, Cairo University; Member of the Supreme Council for Urban Harmony, NOUH; Chair of the Committee on Open Spaces and Parks; Principal Partner and Managing Director at EAG Consulting, Cairo; and Member of Yoakley Consultants Ltd., Isle of Man, U.K.
Dr. El Adli is recipient of numerous honors and awards, his extensive international expertise as a practicing architect, planner, urban designer, landscape architect, as well as an academic include master planning, design, as well as project and development management of a wide variety of urban projects and a diversified range of building types for clients both domestically and internationally including high profile projects in the MENA and Gulf region.
His professional interests and experience include Sustainable Urban Planning and Design, Landscape Architecture and Design, Tourism Planning, Regionally and Culturally Appropriate Architecture, as well as Housing and Community Development.
Dr. El Adli also served in varying capacities as Visiting Professor at Georgia State University; Research Associate and Consultant on Tourism Development Projects at Texas A&M University; Instructor at the University of California, Berkeley; Vice President of Technical Affairs at the National Organization for Urban Harmony; as well as Consultant and Expert to multiple local and international agencies including the: ETH; USAID; Ministry of Planning / UNDP; Naval American Research Unit; Tourism Development Authority; and the Ministry of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities. He has undertaken and concluded several technical reports as well as projects with the aforementioned institutions.
Dr. El Adli has published extensively, delivered speeches at numerous international conferences, and conducted presentations aimed at improving public understanding of the importance of sustainable planning and design excellence. He has organized, directed, and served as Chair at multiple international symposiums and is Referee to reputable peer reviewed journals. He is member to several prestigious professional associations and civic societies including the American Institute of Architects, American Institute of Landscape Architects, International Society of City and Regional Planners, Egyptian Society of Town Planners, Egyptian Society of Engineers, Heliopolis Business Men Association, and Cairo River Nile Rotary Club.
As an active member at ISOCARP, Dr. El Adli has served as Bureau Member, Chair of the Local Organizing Committee for the Society's 39th International Congress in Cairo; was Rapporteur to Workshop-I in Cancun; Peer Reviewer to Workshop-II in Nairobi; Member of the Urban Planning Advisory Team (UPAT) for the Western Gateway to the Zurich Metropolitan Region; and is currently Vice President of National Delegations. He has traveled extensively and lived in various parts of the world.
